Fashion is Visualising Fashion- Body and Space
As a visual merchandiser you will develop and deliver visual concepts to promote products and brands. This session is about creating fashion environments by exploring scale, materials and layout by exploring brands through spaces. Models are a great way to present spatial concepts and can allow you to be highly innovative and experimental….from the surreal, bizarre or playful! Working with academics from Coventry University and using only sheet materials (paper and card), we will create models with depth and perspective. You will ‘play’ and explore compositions that could be the next catwalk concept or retail display.
Sensational Fashion- Sculpt, Pleat and Manipulate
From Vionnet, Viktor and Rolf to Hussain Chalayan Fashion has always pushed the extremes of material through technique. The use of technique combined with material distorts or enhances the body through volume, scale and reveal. You will have the opportunity to work with key concepts to fire your imagination though invention, risk taking and making. You will explore collage and manipulation techniques to create innovative and playful Fashion Illustration
If you're interested in comics, animation or games and you've always wanted to create your own characters then join us for a workshop where you can learn how to create your own believable characters for use in your own stories. Using techniques that are used in industry you will get to design the hero the bad guy or the creature under the bed. If you've already got a story that you'd like to design a character for, feel free to bring it along, but don't worry if you don't have one. The most important thing you need to bring is your imagination.
"As a graphic designer you are required to consolidate important ideas and express them in concise, meaningful ways for select markets. In this session you will consider you own creative personality and manifesto and express it in the form a cover design for Creative Review. This is an exercise in compression and articulate, where you will select key messages from your ‘brand’ and implement a graphic approach that presents those concepts to an audience of busy (but creative!) shoppers. Working with academics from Coventry University and using templates and marker pens to visualise your idea, you will produce an intelligent, considered design… and you might even leave the room with a firmer idea of your personal creative direction and career route. This fun, dynamic session is as much a ‘personal diagnostic' as a design exercise."
DIORAMA - Space and Scale
"Dioramas or collage models are a (relatively) quick and effective way of presenting spatial ideas (interior and exterior). Dioramas may be entirely figurative/representational or conceptual, even surreal. Using only sheet materials (paper and card), we can create models with depth and perspective. Usually small in size, and best viewed from one vantage point, dioramas lend themselves perfectly to photography. The success of the diorama lies in the quality of the images, their juxtaposition and the craftsmanship with which the model is fabricated. By using your imagination you will develop a sense of spatial awareness and composition."
