Rock with Laughter

Music and comedy – an exciting twist for the Summer concerts at Englands’ stately homes and a very welcome addition to the list of outdoor entertainments.

How best to describe “Rock With Laughter”? Jasper Carrott calls it “a humdinger of a party” – and thousands have agreed each December at the NEC where it plays to full houses. Now the highly successful format arrives outdoors at some of England’s finest country houses and you can party with your picnic in the picturesque settings.

The MC is one of Britain’s most familiar comic faces, the ubiquitous Lenny Henry, star of so many TV shows for more than 25 years and acknowledged as the driving force behind ‘Red Nose Day’. Helping him to keep the smiles on your faces will be Jasper Carrott, who was launched on the public 30 years ago and is still making the rib cages of Britain ache. And for those in the audience who like something alternative there’s the anarchic Jo Brand.

The musical delights will come from The Manfreds featuring the original pin-up singers Paul Jones and Mike d’Abo (5-4-3-2-1, Mighty Quinn, Pretty Flamingo), the sultry Elkie Brooks, whose career spans almost 5 decades, produced 19 albums and earned numerous awards and accolades, with her band, plus The Blockheads (Hit Me With Your Rhythm Stick, Sex & Drugs & Rock ‘n’ Roll, Reasons To Be Cheerful) with comic-singer and Buzzcocks team leader Phill Jupitus. To end the night the most famous of all tribute bands The Bootleg Beatles, complete with their orchestra, re-creating the sounds of the Fab Four. No-one does it better.

Chris Bailey, event manager for promoters IML Concerts, said “This is a show with something for everyone and we are looking forward to having a good laugh with all the audience at this historic home. There will be three decades of music and comedy stars on one stage on one night – surely a first for an outdoor show in such a picturesque setting – and we feel that this show will appeal across many age groups.”

Mr Bailey added “With 40,000 people attending the show at the NEC last December we feel strongly that this will be a sell-out event so early booking is a must ! We will be installing a giant screen at the venue to enhance viewing pleasure and hope that everyone will come along ready to ‘rock with laughter’!” ”
